The Irish History Society UUM is a historically focused student society within the Campus of Magee in Derry/Londonderry. This society is being re-organised in 2011-12, with the objective of providing a centre of activity to promote historical pluralism in the North-West while also creating a focus group for historical dialogue and experience for students. Our aim is to create a Society in which history students, past and present, visiting or resident, part-time or full-time can avail of a group specifically organised to suit their needs. We will endeavour to organise various events throughout the year for all members or anybody else who is interested. Our society will be associated with the CCS-IHSA and in doing so will be part of a larger national body. This will encourage a vibrant and exciting Society, with kindred interest groups coming together North and South. We aim to organise a number of trips throughout the year but also organise fund-raising events to provide the means to run the Society. New members are being sought throughout the Campus at present.

The University of Ulster Magee (UUM) is located in the heart of the cathedral city of Londonderry /Derry on the banks of Lough Foyle in the northwest of Northern Ireland. As one of the oldest inhabited places in Ireland the city has strong traditions and a wealth of culture, which combines with an active social scene to make the city an exciting place to live and study. The most visibly striking features of the city are its historic walls. Northern Ireland’s second largest city, Derry is sometimes referred to as the Maiden City since its walls were never breached during a siege in the late 17th century. It is the only remaining completely walled city in Ireland and one of the finest examples of a walled city in Europe today. Derry has been selected as the UK's first City of Culture for 2013.

The Magee campus is named after the College founded by Martha Magee in 1845 as a Presbyterian Theological College. It is located only a short walk along the River Foyle away from the city walls and comprises a mixture of historical and new buildings and modern and traditional facilities. The central feature of the campus is the original building opened in 1865 which overlooks Lough Foyle. The campus has a friendly feel and students often mention this as being one of the main benefits of being a student here.
