John Mc Grath
John has a B.A. (History, Maths), which he received from Mary Immaculate College in 2000, and an M.A.
(Sociability and socio-economic conditions in St.Mary's Parish, Limerick. 1890-1950) received from Mary I in 2005.
In 2006 an article of his was published in the North Munster Antiquarian Journal, titled ‘Music and Politics: marching bands
in late nineteenth century Limerick.’ In 2009 an abstract of one of his M.A. chapters was published in Kemmy's Limerick
Miscellany: new anthology of Limerick writing edited by Denis O'Shaughnessy, titled ‘Limerick’s bands and the Parnellite split.’
He has an article due to be published titled ‘An urban Irish community: St. Mary’s Parish, Limerick and the social role of
sporting and musical clubs 1885-1905,’ which will appear in a publication which will deal with Association Cultures in Ireland.
John is currently pursuing a PhD in Mary I with a working title of ‘Organised Labour in Limerick City 1810-1900’.
He has a general interest in history while his primary research interests are in Irish urban culture, Irish sport history,
Irish urban labour history, Irish urban riots and housing conditions in Irish cities all in the 1800-1920 era.
